Parenting styles affect how a child will develop and behave in future. Each parenting style has its pros and cons, but it is important to understand which type of parenting style will work best for each child. The child’s temperament, the parents’ personalities, and the family’s cultural values all need to be taken into account when determining the most appropriate method of parental guidance.

There are many ways to be a good parent, and it is important to choose the one that feels best for you. You may be a strict parent or an involved parent. Find what works for you before trying to change your parenting style.

Permissive Parenting Styles

Parents who choose the permissive parenting style find that they spend more time with their children, but are not as authoritative. They usually give their children a lot of freedom and allow them to make their own decisions.

Permissive parents are often open-minded and understanding, which can be good for kids who do not always have a clear idea what they want to do. It means that the parents allow their children to do anything they want or at least don’t stop them from doing things they don’t want them to do, like not going to bed on time or getting into trouble with other kids. However, this parenting style does have its issues as your child could go off the rails and get into serious trouble.

Authoritative Parenting Styles

An authoritative parenting style is one that is not overtly strict, but still sets clear limits and expectations for a child. The authoritative parenting style is proactive, seeking to guide the child in the right direction with a thoughtful plan for the future. Authoritative parents also provide age-appropriate support and understanding when children go through difficult stages of life.

Authoritarian Parenting Styles

The authoritarian parenting style is a form of child-rearing in which parents have strict control over their children’s decisions, actions, and thoughts. These parents discipline their children with force, intimidation, or excessive criticism.

The authoritarian parenting style is based on the belief that children are naturally bad and thus need to be controlled by their parents in order to prevent them from becoming immoral or rebellious.

Conclusion: The Importance of Understanding Your Child’s Personality Type & Finding a Suitable Parenting Style

Choosing a parenting style should be individual to every family and to some extent every child. It is important to understand your child’s personality type and what is a suitable parenting style for them, if you want a happy and healthy relationship.

You shouldn’t look to change their child’s personality type, as it probably won’t work and could end in tears. Children are individuals and they need to be treated as such.  Parent each child the same by parenting them differently.  That said, your personality as parents as well as your shared values has to play a major role.  The truth is parenting styles don’t need to be totally fixed and can evolve as you grow as a family.  Different stages of childhood may require different approaches too/.
