Homework Stress

What’s homework time like in your house?  In ours it is a nightmare.  It really shouldn’t be.  My son is bright and performing at about a year above his age.  The work is challenging, but not over the top.  I think the real problem is that there is just too much of it and he gets tired or fed up before it’s done.  At 6 he should be getting 10 minutes a day, but with 5+ minutes being taken up by daily reading.  There’s no time for the rest: spellings, maths questions, a word game and 20 spellings.  How on earth is that supposed to happen in less than half an hour a week?
I’m thinking of confronting the teacher about it.  The difficulty is that even if I put my foot down and say no to the extra homework, then J will feel left out or feel that he is being naughty.  Also, do I want to send the message that it’s ok not to do your homework?  I will ask her to set less.  The thing is she needs to cut out more than half of it I think.

I do think that the amount of homework piled on kids from an early age is just too much. It’s way more than our generation were given and we muddled along ok!

I remember begging for homework in year 5. It gets worse as they get older mind.
