I’m just so glad we aren’t doing the school run this morning. We escaped as J’s school is having a teacher training day. It has rained pretty much all day long and been pretty miserable in fact. Just as well we did all the fun stuff yesterday and today has just been a chill out day at home. I think we needed it as J went to a friend’s house yesterday morning (and there were other children there as well as the friend) and in the afternoon we had another friend round with her mum. So it was busy, busy, busy, but a lot of fun as well. Today has been much more a hole up inside sort of day.
J was at his Dad’s overnight and came back this morning in the pouring rain. When he got here he had to strip off – everything had got wet. If that had happened on the way to school, he’d have been in damp clothes all day, so it’s good that he avoided that. From a mum’s perspective no one wants to catch up with the other mums when it’s raining, so let’s hope tomorrow is a better day weather wise at least.
We are dreading getting back into the school routine. We like our lazy holiday mornings. We like the freedom to go out and explore, or stay at home and chill. We like the fact we aren’t having to rush off to an after school activity. It all makes life less stressful. Well we can’t escape it any longer and tomorrow will see the school gates beckoning. Year 6 is quite a serious year with secondary school decisions to be made. The school will see the SATs as being all important, but I couldn’t give a monkeys how that goes really as it doesn’t really have any relevance to J, it’s just for the school.
