The governing body of my son’s school is planning to convert to an academy and not just a stand alone one either, but part of a multi-school academy group. It’s not the sort of school I would have chosen for J and I’m annoyed that they are planning to make such a wholesale change to the way the school is run.
I’ve put my objection in and I’ve got a meeting with the head of the governors. I’ve got lots of points to raise, but I’m worried that my concerns and those of other parents will be ignored. The governors haven’t allowed much time for consultation and seemed surprised by the amount of resistance they have been encountering. Despite that I’m worried that they will go ahead.
I don’t want to move my son from the school where he is happy and it wouldn’t be that easy to do anyway as most decent local schools are full. So I think he will continue where he is whatever the outcome, but it will be with a heavy heart and rather less enthusiasm on my part. The key thing will be whether he notices any difference or whether it feels the same as before. Of course, there may be some improvements, but there may be negatives too. I guess the jury is out. The problem is I don’t know that how easy it will be to go back to the current set up if it doesn’t work. I rather suspect it won’t be possible.
