Time Flies

School

19 Apr

I can’t quite believe it, but J has started his third and last term of his seventh and last year of primary school.  It only seems like a few months since his first day in reception in many ways and it’s difficult to take in that we will soon be saying goodbye to the little, one form entry primary that he has been attending for the last seven years.

So far this school year there have been plenty of lasts as we cycle through the usual events of the school year: the last carol concert, the last parent’s evening, etc.  Soon there will be even more lasts: the last sports day, the last May Day procession, the last school disco and so on.  There will also be a number of events that will help him (and me too probably) say goodbye to the school.  There’s a class breakfast at the local Toby to come.  J loves the Year 6 leavers’ assembly – apparently it’s the best of the year – and of course he’ll be taking part this year.  He’s not sure the current Year 6 teacher can live up to his predecessor’s writing skills for the sketches, but we’ll see I guess.

Our class are organising a party to celebrate their last 7 years at the school and the parents are all taking part in organising this.  On the last day there will be bubbles on the field which is always fun and the Year 6s team up with their friends in the Reception Class.  I was looking the other day at some pictures of this event in J’s first year at the school and it’s difficult to believe he’ll soon be taking part alongside his buddy from the first year.

Of course, as well as looking back there’s something around looking forward to a new start in a new school and that feels like a whole new adventure.
