It can be tough when your teenager leaves for university. They’re growing up and becoming independent, and you might not see them as much as you used to. Here are ten things you can do when your teenager leaves for university:

1. Stay in touch.

It’s important to stay in touch with your teenager even if they’re away at university. You can do this by sending them letters, emails, or text messages. You can also call them or video chat with them.

2. Visit them.

If you can, visit your teenager at university. This will help you stay connected and catch up on what’s going on in their life. The visit doesn’t have to be long, and just a few hours will do.

3. Send them care packages.

Your teenager will appreciate getting care packages from home. Fill the care package with their favourite snacks, toiletries, and other items they might need. It’s a great way to show them you’re thinking of them.

4. Ask about their classes.

Show an interest in your teenager’s studies by asking about their classes and study trips. Find out what they’re learning and how they’re doing. This will let them know you care about their education.

5. Offer help.

If your teenager is struggling with their studies, offer to help them. You can provide moral support or even help them study for their exams. However, don’t do their work for them.

6. Encourage them to get involved.

University is a great time to get involved in new activities. Encourage your teenager to join a club or try a new sport. This will help them make friends and have fun. This is also a great way for you to learn more about their interests.

7. Respect their privacy.

As your teenager becomes more independent, they’ll value their privacy more. Respect their wishes and don’t pry into their personal life. This will help them feel more comfortable confiding in you.

8. Be supportive.

No matter what your teenager is going through, be supportive. They might make mistakes, but they’ll learn from them. Be there for them and offer your guidance when they need it.

9. Be proud of them.

Your teenager is accomplishing a lot by going to university. Be proud of their achievements and let them know you’re behind them all the way.

10. Enjoy your time together.

When your teenager comes home from university, take the time to enjoy your time together. Whether you go out for dinner or just watch a movie, make the most of your time together. These moments will be cherished for years to come.

There you have it!

It can be hard when your teenager leaves for university, but it’s also an exciting time. Stay in touch with them, visit them, and send them care packages. Show an interest in their studies and be supportive. Be proud of their achievements and enjoy your time together. These ten things will help you stay connected to your teenager and have a great relationship.
